About The Book.

A translation of Fiore dei Liberi's Il Fior di Bataglia manuscript, an illustrated treatise on the late mediaeval art of arms from the first decade of the fifteenth century. Also known as "The Getty" and "Ms. Ludwig XV 13", it is the most detailed of Fiore's works. With its hundreds of techniques, it shows how to fight for your life in armour and out, on horse or on foot, with dagger, sword, spear, poleaxe or unarmed. This book reproduces the original manuscript, along with a transcription and a translation into modern English. Translated by Bruno Nicoletti, a modern practitioner of Fiore's arts, it is an invaluable primary source for students of historical martial arts.

About The Author.

Barely appearing in the historical record, Fiore dei Liberi lived in Italy during the late fourteenth and early fifteenth century, serving as a condottiero to the city of Udine, a martial instructor to Italian and German knights and nobility as well as being an acomplished duellist by his own account. His are some of the earliest works on European martial arts with four illustrated manuscripts known to have survived to this day. In them he describes a true martial system for the late mediaeval man at arms.
